Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers, was born on July 8, 1989 in Paris. They relocated to Oxfordshire in the year she turned five years old and attended at the Dragon School. From the age of six Emma knew she was going to become an actress and for many years she was a student at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theater school, where she learned singing dancing and acting. The actress had performed in several Stagecoach or school shows when she was 10 years old. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 version of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was published in 1999. Casting agents found Emma through her Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that, after auditioning for eight times Emma and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. The debut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. It was the year's top grossing film, breaking records during the opening day as well as the first weekend. It was highly acclaimed by critics, as were the performances of its three young actors. The highly distributed British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performances admirable. Emma later won five awards for her performance in the film.
