Her mother, Sara Zwilling was a producer, singer, and television writer. She passed away from heart failure in 1975. Katey was just 21 years old. Her father, Boris Sagal, was a Ukrainian immigrant who worked as director. In 1977, the father of Sagal was remarried to dancer/actress Marge Champion. The tragically-dead man would die three years later, when he was thrown into the blades of in a helicopter in Timberline Lodge, Oregon. Four of Sagal's siblings are actors.
